CMSE - Certified Machinery Safety Expert

Target

In collaboration with TÜV NORD, Pilz offers the “CMSE – Certified Machinery Safety Expert” certification. The four-day course provides a comprehensive overview of machinery safety and is divided into five modules that cover a wide range of topics related to the machinery lifecycle. The CMSE modules are standardized worldwide and maintain a consistent level of quality. The final TÜV NORD certificate is internationally recognized as well.

– Introduction to safety management systems

Module 2: Machinery safety fundamentals

– Legislation regarding the design, manufacture, and maintenance of machinery
– Conformity requirements and procedures
– Regulations governing work equipment and workplaces
– Consideration of occupational safety and health in relation to machinery, including ergonomics, noise, vibrations, and chemical substances

Module 3: Risk Assessment

– Risk assessment in accordance with ISO 12100 and its application
– Methods for risk assessment
– Conducting the risk assessment
– Application and use of other relevant machine standards
– Overview of risk reduction measures

Module 4: Design measures and safeguarding

– International requirements for guards
– Protective devices: definition, types, and application examples
– Calculation of safety distances in accordance with ISO 13857

Safety components and technologies
– Overview of safety components
– Guards (physical-barriers)
– Safeguarding (non-physical-barriers)
– Supplementary protective measures
– Safety-related applications of control systems

Electrical safety requirements
– Electrical equipment of machines and systems according to IEC 60204-1

Module 5: Functional Safety and fluid control systems

– Detailed examination of the requirements of EN ISO 13849-1/-2 – Specification, design, and validation of safety control systems – Determination of Performance Level (PL) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) – Selection of architecture (categories) – Verification and validation procedures – Introduction to IEC 62061 – Functional safety of fluid systems – Requirements of ISO 4413 (hydraulics) and ISO 4414 (pneumatics) – Design of safety-related parts of fluid power systems in acc. ISO 13849-1

Examination / Certificate

The course includes a multiple-choice test. Upon passing the exam, participants receive the internationally recognized TÜV NORD certificate for “CMSE – Certified Machinery Safety Expert,” which is valid for four years.

The one-day recertification course extends the validity by an additional four years.
