Target

Five modules provide a simple and understandable introduction to the basic responsibilities, tasks, and measures involved in the safe design of machines. In a very short time, you will gain in-depth information on the legal situation regarding machine safety, insight into risk assessment, knowledge on the creation of safety concepts, the use of modern safety devices, and the latest trends in mechanical engineering.

On the last day of the course (module 5), you can voluntarily take an exam to obtain the title as “PILZ Safety Engineer.”

Module 1: Introduction to Machinery Safety

  • General safety, causes of accidents, statistics
  • European directives, laws, regulations
  • CE conformity assessment procedures
  • Conversion, modification, and interlinking of machines

Module 2: Risk Assessment Workshop

  • Risk Assessment acc. to EN ISO 12100
  • 3-Step Risk mitigation principle
  • Workshop

Module 3: Safe Mechanical Designing

  • Inherently safe design
  • Ergonomics
  • Safety aspects and safety distances acc. to ISO 13855 and ISO 13857
  • Safeguarding and interlocking with/without guard locking acc. to ISO 14119 and ISO 14120 
  • Organizational measures (user information, warning labels, LOTO – Lockout Tagout, etc.)

Module 4: Functional- and Electrical Safety

  • Basics of the functional Safety acc. to ISO 13849-1/2
    (Performance Level)
  • Basics to safely developed electrical equipment acc. to IEC 60204-1

Module 5: Robotics, New Machinery regulation and OT-Security Introduction

  • New Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230
  • Industrial and human-robot-collaboration applications
  • Future OT-Security Requirements acc. to Machinery regulation, Cyber Resilience Act

Certificate / Examination

At the end of the course, participants can voluntarily take the Pilz Safety Engineer exam in the form of a multiple-choice test and receive a certificate confirming that they have achieved the title of “PILZ Safety Engineer.”

A mobile device (laptop, tablet, cell phone) is required for the exam, as it is conducted via a digital portal.
